I paint with mostly acrylic paint and things like inks, gels and textured mediums. A foundation color frames the mood of a piece. As the paint of the next layer is dry to the touch, a spritz of water adds deep pits and a distressed look as it is wiped away taking some paint with it. Next a layer may be poured on or applied with fingers, a sponge or a pick comb conveying depth and deepening texture. A bit more scrubbing reveals a few hints of the foundation color; if only in one or two areas. Finally, I may add a clear gloss or matt finish to give dimension to each layer. Sharing what lies beneath is really what makes the whole thing work for me. Vivid color draws the observer's eye through the piece and helps reveal my emotional ties to each work and hopefully shapes what the observer feels as they view my art. The tiny details are important in my art and in my life as well. I love to make images that show texture and detail the eye might miss at a first glance. Natural organic forms and depth of textures challenge me to do more than paint a picture.
