Anne Knife Photography, Potomac, MD
I am inspired by people and landscapes around me. My work has been inspired by old family photos that are beautiful in their simplicity and yet suffused with the complexities of family and emotions. When I received my first camera, I became the photographer I would take all of the family photos and vacation shots. I would paint it as a girl and photograph it when I got my first camera at 12. These two elements have come together in the era of digital editing to create my style. I am inspired by the small things in life where light, scale and composition happen. My work is dreamlike yet specific, my photography marries my painterly aesthetic with the soft view of memory. It may begin at a life guard race or a storm coming in over the horizon that grabs me. I create my work through different treatments and actions I have developed to create visual artistry. I approach my work as a painter that has the untraditional elements to create on my computer. As you go through my work some will be painterly others will be unedited photographs that have something I needed to capture, pure.
