Montreal Blue is an alternative rock band from Ogden UT. After frontman Richard Smith, and drummer Jeremy Vandeveer, split off from another project, they found Russell Porter (bassist) and initially formed as a trio in 2007. They had occasional jam sessions, and had a few small performances over the next couple of years. The trio began to take the music a bit more seriously around 2010 and cut a five song EP with Matt Hepworth at Studio Nu in Riverdale, UT. The EP has been used to promote the band and help secure many gigs along Utah's Wasatch Front. A short time later, Richard recorded a full-length, solo, acoustic album titled "Behind the Canvas" and the band makes it available when selling merch after shows. Richard's brother, Austin Smith, played keyboards for the band in 2012 and left on good terms to pursue his education and a family. Jeremy's brother, Matt Vandeveer (guitarist), joined in 2013 and the band has been the same foursome ever since. In the fall of 2014, the band began recording their first full-length album; however, due to various life hurdles, "Let's Just Drive" was unable to be completed and released until March 2017. They recorded the album on their own, then outsourced the mixing and mastering to none other than Matt Hepworth at Studio Nu. Visit the band on Facebook. Montreal Blue already has plans for a 2nd full-length album, but until then, please enjoy "Let's Just Drive," and look for them to perform at some of Utah's summer fairs & festivals. More to come...
