The 53rd Annual Klamath Salmon Festival is happening on Saturday, August 22 in front of the Tribe's newly opened Redwood Hotel Casino. The family-oriented event starts at 8:00 a.m. with the Klamath Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Veterans Breakfast at the Klamath Community Center. The breakfast, free for former and active military personnel, is followed by a parade at 10 a.m., and the famously delicious salmon lunch will start at 11:00 a.m.
Attendees of the all-day, free event will have an opportunity to learn more about Yurok culture, dance to live music, shop for authentic handmade gifts from nearly 100 vendors and enjoy a delicious, traditionally cooked salmon feast. The highly competitive stick game, a traditional sport that resembles a cross between lacrosse and wrestling will be played by many of the Native American Tribes in the region. Cultural demonstrations will be going on throughout the day. There will also be kids' area, complete with a bounce house, face painting and other fun activities.
