Ali Weiss, a Marin County native and current Sebastopol resident, began singing at age 8 - with Abba records in the living room, memorizing the Evita soundtrack and playing Cha Cha in the school musical, Grease. After singing in her first band at age 18, she took up guitar and later taught herself piano. Now, after years dedicated to her musical vocation, she emerges as a unique singer/songwriter whose stories of love, loss and hope are carried forth on a voice of sweet strength.
Ali has performed both solo and with bands at famous venues such as The Fillmore, The Sweetwater, the Viper Room, and Slims. Ali's honest, lucid lyrics. lingering melodies and soulful voice are beautifully captured on her most recent recordings produced by Michael Urbano (drums: Smashmouth, Sheryl Crow, John Hiatt) and Lyle Workman (guitar: Beck, Sting). Michael and Lyle played on the recordings as well as Zac Rae (keyboards: Fiona Apple, Jane's Addiction), Davey Faragher (bass: Elvis Costello, John Hiatt) and David Immergluck (guitar and pedal steel: Counting Crows).
Ali has a complete command over her talent. She takes and spreads joy in performing. Audiences far and wide have connected with Ali's confidence and sincerity on stage. Her concerts are a way for Ali to express and share intimate experiences through her songs, as if talking with an old friend, "Count the ways that I keep from crying, but I just can't count on you."
This gutsy musician has taken a life, her life, rich in experiences and rendered it artfully into song.
Performing with her band, (Jeff Nix - guitar, Joe Horner - bass, Josh Greenberg - drums, Mary West - vocals), Ali plays mostly original songs with a sprinkling of covers by artists such as Dire Straits, Bonnie Raitt, the Bee Gees, Rikki Lee Jones, and more).
