In 2000 when our normal 6 year old son fell victim to viral encephalitis, my life as I knew it, changed over night. After two months of watching this virus ravage it's way through Spencer's brain, we walked out of Denver Children's Hospital with a severely affected boy who would be like an infant for the rest of his life. He would need lots of tender loving care, patience, and people who believed in him. Instead of having three of my kids in school that year. I transitioned to life as a fulltime caregiver/mommy.
It's been thirteen years and Spencer is now 19. I have learned a lifetime of lessons in our daily struggles. Being homebound much of the time, I had to put my right brain to work. This is where my love of making jewelry was born. I began a small business with several open houses and attended some craft fairs. I'm now back to creating again after a two year hiatus due to a divorce. I keep up with current fashion trends and make my pieces affordable. Having my own business allows me to be with Spencer when necessary and work my schedule around my family's needs. My dream is to one day start a non profit organization called Spencer's House. A facility for special needs kids where they can go for daily care and potentially live after the age of 21. In the state of Colorado, there is a great need for these types of facilities.
