After working and growing in the corporate business, Maria Elena Perez-Puelles also known as Mele, decided to do what she always wanted: create, design and use her own hands to give life to different materials and turn them into beautiful art pieces. These artistic talents have always been with her, since very early in her life she experimented with different techniques and materials: drawing and painting, handcrafting educational wooden toys, ceramics and metalwork.
Before moving to Florida, Mele began working with gourds, also known as calabash (crescentia cujete), which is the fruit of an emblematic plant of Margarita Island in Venezuela. The whimsical shapes of the fruit sparked her imagination and from them, lively figures whose designs are inspired by nature and characterized by her own unique style began to emerge.
Mele is now using resins in the development of each of her artwork, while maintaining the original shape of the fruit that originally inspired her. Her pieces are true works of art whose color and vivacity bring originality and beauty to spaces with unique identity.
