I am a clay artist deeply inspired by nature and my garden. I like to make beautiful items, functional or decorative, that people will enjoy in their homes and yards. I started working with clay in 2000 and treated myself with a return to college and completion of an art degree in 2006. My involvement in the festival circuit has fluctuated depending on family and day job responsibilities. I have seen a maturity developing in my work over the last couple years as I have been able to devote more time to the studio. I pay for studio time in a Hayward Recreation Department facility and also have my own studio space in Castro Valley. I teach clay classes for children at a local child care camp (sporadically as asked) and assist the instructor at the recreation studio, as needed.
Probably the most amusing aspect of my obsession with clay is the reaction of my family - they never knew I "was an artist!" I think the new age term "maker" describes me best. I love to make things out of whatever medium is available. I also discovered that I love to sell my work! I like talking "shop" with people who stop by, and encouraging young and old to try working with clay.
