Luisa Ximena Bustamante
Bogotá 1974 – Colombian Painter
From a very young age Luisa-Ximena moves with her family to Ibagué (Tolima) where she begins to showcase her ingenuity in painting.
While still in high school she attended various art classes in the Tolima University and in her free time she also dedicated herself to teaching art to young children.
After graduating from high school she transferred to Bogotá to begin her studies in Plastic Arts in Escuela de Artes y Letras. In 1998 after finishing her studies, she was able to expose her artwork in Ibagué in the Young Artists of Tolima category. This same year she travels to Cuba to take classes on Marble Art in the prestigious Instituto Superior de Arte in Habana under the tutelage of Juan Quintanilla. While in this institute, she was surrounded by great talents from around the world and graduated with the highest grades in her class.
Returning to live in Ibagué, Colombia for the next two years she attended classes in Especializado de Experimentación Plástica (Specializing and Experimenting with Plastic) taught by Carlos Granada. Granada helped her find her own language in art, reaffirming her passion for colors and different textures that still is present in her artwork today.
During this period of time she had various expositions in the Salón Departamental de Artistas Tolimenses where she would expose a piece each time shifting closer towards abstract expressionism. She expresses a language full of color and textures as a medium of expression. Strong colors and contrasting textures express different languages inviting the spectator to let himself go and feel emotions that are too nuanced for words to describe.
During this great time of artistic experiences, she marries her love of her life and they have their first son.
In 2004 they decide to move to the United States and in this new era of their lives she begins to work educating young children. Using her experience in the arts, she had various expositions with the Miami Art Center, Art Serv in Fort Lauderdale, and also has an individual exposition in Art Expression and Painters.
Currently she has her own studio at Art Studio Luisa Ximena where her passion to teach reaches children, adolescents, and adults with a strong work ethic that is characteristic of her work.
