"That's the most fun we've had!" "That was truly entertaining." "I wish she wouldn't stop singing!" These are comments Aspen Black hears over and over after her shows. Aspen Black is a nationally-awarded singer songwriter, cover artist, and multi-instrumentalist. She has several show options in the Americana, folk, and country genres to fit all kinds of audiences from standard (adults/families/all ages) to children and senior adults. Aspen focuses on giving your audience an experience they won't forget!
If you're looking for original songs, Aspen has up to two hours of road-tested crowd pleasing original songs to keep hands clapping and toes tapping! Or she can vary between originals and well-known covers. Want a slower/more introspective experience? Aspen's got lots of ballads and mid-tempo songs. Would your crowd rather hear only songs they know? Aspen has a smooth, crowd-pleasing show of sing-along classics from Peter, Paul, and Mary to Elvis to Flatt & Scruggs to Willie Nelson and more. She can even project the words on a large screen she brings so everyone can sing with her!
No money for a full band? Aspen's got you covered. She regularly performs solo on guitar, mandolin, and baritone ukulele, and sometimes fiddle, with a drum machine stomp box that adds her own rhythm guitar behind the smaller instruments and tasteful bass and beats throughout. The result - people get into the groove and have a great time! Do you want live only (no stomp box with drums, bass, or guitar loops so she can play the smaller instruments too?) Aspen can hold her own fine with only acoustic guitar and vocals, with a combination of strumming, fingerpicking and fills/solos.
Aspen got her first break in country music in the mid-1990's with airplay on mainstream country radio. She has continued to write and perform in the Americana and country genres, honing her skills and winning awards for her songwriting and performing, Her unique voice turns heads, yet is not so unique that people don't easily notice her experienced sound and start singing along.
Looking for children's entertainment? In 2014, Aspen added children's shows to her roster and has been a favored performer in libraries all over the country! She creates new shows each year to meet the Summer Reading theme, then these shows become available year 'round at schools, libraries, private events, and festivals, like yours. These interactive song and dance shows are fun and educational, targeted at children ages 2-10, but often enjoyed by everyone from babies in arms to grandparents. Examples of themes are: 1) Kindness and Unity, 2) Colors and Artwork, 3) Cowboy/Cowgirl 4) Space Exploration. Each show is approximately 50 minutes but can be shortened to fit your time slot, and/or repeated multiple times throughout the day. For a small additional fee, Aspen can provide support materials, like coloring pages, crafts, and larger prizes. Small prizes are included in each show.
Is yours a church or religious event? Aspen has up to 1 hour of Christian originals and old-time gospel favorites. Her originals are based on bible passages, often written for a variety of church services over the years. A/V is available with this show, should you desire, with the words and slideshows artistically projected behind her (she provides all the A/V equipment needed unless you have it built in). Or, Aspen can simply play the songs, no AV, and connect with other believers.
Aspen is willing to provide her own PA and portable A/V setup for all shows, should you desire that, or can quickly patch into your festival's sound system. Aspen arrives early, is professional and courteous, stays on time in her sets, and is always willing to lend a hand to help keep things running smoothly. Aspen is also an experienced sound engineer, running sound for local, regional, and touring acts at the 3rd Street Coffeehouse listening room in Roanoke, VA. She has been working in digital recording since 2002 and recently has started a radio-style podcast called Western Air Waves. At smaller festivals, for an additional fee, Aspen is willing to share her PA with the other artists and run sound throughout the day, in addition to her performance set. Looking for some out of the box options? Aspen has run the Campfire Stage, Open Mic, and Pajama Jam stages at the IWMA National Convention in Albuquerque, NM for the past 6 years, and Open Mic every 3rd Thursday at 3rd Street Coffeehouse listening room for 8 yrs. Aspen can facilitate an open mic stage at your festival or DJ'd music, in the folk/Americana genres.
Aspen Black is represented by Hale Promotions and her original music is currently playing on indie country radio and selected mainstream radio stations.
