The Difference in Small Batch

The Difference in Small Batch

There is a difference between production and craft.

Small batch candle making allows for control at every step, from wax temperature to fragrance blending to final pour. Each run is measured, adjusted, and observed, rather than scaled beyond recognition.

This approach takes more time, but it results in consistency where it matters. Clean burns. Even scent throw. A product that performs as intended, not just at first light, but throughout its life.

At Autumn Laurel & Co., small batch is not a label. It is the process itself.

Scent and Place in Appalachia

Scent and Place in Appalachia

Scent has always been tied to place.

In the Blue Ridge Mountains, the seasons arrive with distinct character. Early spring carries green air and soft florals along fence lines. Summer settles into warmth and orchard sweetness. Autumn deepens into wood, smoke, and spice. Winter brings stillness, clean air, and quiet.

At Autumn Laurel & Co., each fragrance begins with a place or a moment. Not an abstract idea, but something lived. A trail after rain. A kitchen in late afternoon. Coastal air moving inland along the Tidewater.

These are not just scents. They are small translations of memory, shaped into something that can be returned to again and again.

Why Apricot Coconut Wax?

posted March 24, 2026   category » Candle Craft & Materials
Why Apricot Coconut Wax?

Most candles are made to fill a shelf. Ours are made to fill a space.

At Autumn Laurel & Co., we use an apricot coconut wax blend chosen for its clean burn, smooth finish, and ability to carry fragrance without overwhelming it. It allows each scent to open gradually, creating a more natural experience in the home.

Many mass-produced candles rely on heavier waxes that burn hotter or release fragrance too aggressively. In contrast, apricot coconut wax burns slower and more evenly, producing less soot and allowing the fragrance to remain balanced from first light to final burn.

It is a quieter kind of luxury, one that does not announce itself immediately, but lingers gently in a room.

For us, the material matters as much as the scent. It is the foundation of every candle we pour.
