Linoleum printmaker Betsy Stecker of Big Mitten Linocuts sketches original designs onto linoleum blocks, carves the designs in relief, rolls ink to the carved blocks, and applies pressure to transfer the designs onto paper and textiles. She prints in limited, numbered editions and signs each work. She loves being a printmaker because it is a very accessible medium to collectors; while her favorite customer is that person who is joyfully buying their very first piece of signed, original art, she also is grateful for her brand's collectors and for the nature-loving community at large. She is a nature-inspired printmaker, and she hopes that her art sparks conversation about the beautiful fauna and flora of the mitten state. She also integrates nature themes into socially conscious prints with hand-carved typography in a growing series called “More Than Words.” Betsy is an auto-didactic printmaker following a 22-year career in education. She is a lifelong Michigan native.
