Biscuit Rouse, Newark, NJ
Drummer/singer/songwriter/ bandleader, producer and Philadelphia native James “Biscuit” Rouse, is proud to announce the release of his debut album " Biscuit and Buddy”. "Biscuit and Buddy” is scheduled for worldwide release in the fall of 2024 on German funk/jazz label Leopard. “Biscuit and Buddy” is Rouse's tribute to the departed singer/songwriter/bandleader/producer Buddy Miles who worked his way from the 1960's R&B circuit to launching the Electric Flag and Band of Gypsies while carving a path with his own band and as a solo artist until his passing.
This release is more than just a tribute album, for it not only contains Miles' classics such as “Them Changes” and “Life Is What You Make It” (Rouse's version featuring a searing guitar solo from Living Colour's Vernon Reid), but classics done the way he would've recorded them, such as the Memphis soul gem, “Don't Mess With Cupid” and Neil Young's “Down By The River” (horn arrangement courtesy of V. Jeffrey Smith, formerly of the Family Stand). In addition, Rouse contributes many self penned originals he arranged as well, reflecting the genre-busting spirit of Buddy Miles. "Biscuit and Buddy" honors a legendary drummer and bandleader.
Established as an in demand drummer "Biscuit" has also served as the musical director for Ms Lauryn Hill, Vivian Green and Syleena Johnson, and toured spring of 2024 with Living Colour as a guest band member for a few gigs Biscuit has explored many genres of music through his works - ranging from House music with producer Kenny “Dope' Gonzales to touring with Vernon Reid as well as the Screaming Headless Torsos.
Biscuit is also a talented producer and songwriter working with several talented artists including Haitian award winning producer/film scorer Jerry Wonda (Fugees), and rising artist 'The Violin Diva" whose Biscuit produced song "Bethlehem" is featured in the recent film "Miracle Before Christmas"
