Cassia Community Club

Member Since: September 20, 2019
Festival biz experience: 20+ years
About 70 years ago, the Annual Cassia Day festival began as the Cassia School's fall fundraiser. Later, when the school closed, local folks created a non-profit organization and bought the school property for a community center named The Cassia Community Club. (A "Cassia Community Centre" is located in Australia.) Annual Cassia Day is on the last Sunday in October every year, 11 am to 6 pm., free admission, bands playing on the outdoor stage, children's costume contest & games, barbecue dinners, bake sale, plant sale, raffles for an Rtic cooler & a rifle, big Chinese auction, turkey wheels, vendors & organizations booths, and more! Details: (352) 589-8008.

Venue rental of the attractive, rustic 90-year-old clubhouse and grounds is available to the public. (352) 589-8008.

Free club-sponsored, family-oriented, monthly events include Music in Cassia, a show of bands on the clubhouse stage, playing country, gospel, bluegrass, and favorite tunes, plus open jamming in three pavilions on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays, beginning at 4:15 pm. Wear your dancing shoes! On the 3rd Saturday of each month is the 100% All-Bluegrass Jam inside the auditorium. All pickers of skill-levels and all ages are invited to come and pick for the fans. Space for outdoor jams includes three pavilions. Supper and refreshments for musical events are available from volunteers in the clubhouse kitchen. Proceeds help keep up the facility, fund programs and local charities, and trade school and college scholarships. Details: (407) 929-9796.

Bands who would like to appear on the Cassia Club's stage may contact Wilma, the club's Music Chairman, to schedule their group: (386) 738-4652 or (386) 747-2236. Notable musicians that have performed at the club include Vassar Clements, Daniel Rothwell, Michael Ray, and buck dancer Thomas Maupin. Local bands that have played at Cassia include Pine Creek and Moonlite Express.

As of September 2019 and continuing their lease, David Allen Potter's Smooth Country Band plays at the club every Monday evening from 7 to 9:30 pm for your listening and dancing pleasure. Tickets are $7.00. Refreshments are available during the show, proceeds benefiting the Cassia Community Club. Details: (386) 677-3625.

Donate to the Cassia Community Club's charities: please bring non-perishable items for the food pantry, prizes & items for the Chinese auction on Annual Cassia Day, or donate to the Jim Trapp Memorial Scholarship Fund that benefits Eustis High School graduating seniors enrolled in trade school or college.
