Artist Statement
My recent works are inspired by the natural world and salvaged objects such as wood, metal, fiber and glass. Many of the objects inspire the colored pencil images that I choose to incorporate into the final pieces. As I draw on the wood objects I experience the texture, age and smell of the wood itself. Many times the wood dictates how the color pencil drawing will look on the final piece, whether smooth or rough, showing unique characteristics of the wood itself, whether it is a hole, scratch, or the unique wood grain. The wood and 3 dimensional objects that I include in the work reflect time from the past, such as pieces from an iron fence, an old chair seat, discarded glass, and many other objects.
