I have always been a “creative type”. I found myself so in love with and connected to nature & the outdoors I spent as much of my formative years outside and in green places as I thought could get away with; it even inspired my collegiate education as a Wildlife Biology major. Life is funny, and whatever OUR plans are, are not necessarily where we end up. My career path took me far away from both art and green spaces for 35 years but gave me a chance to travel all over the world and experience so many places and cultures. It's given me the opportunity to appreciate the natural world wherever I am. Unofficial retirement, however, has brought me back in the last year, and I've found my true medium, quite accidentally, in watercolor. I find the challenge of creating watercolor to be intriguing, the color range to be unsurpassed, and the ability to create depth in just 2 dimensions is darn cool. In my head, I'm 'still learning', as each subject, and landscape has something new to teach me, both in technique, and in the palette that nature creates. I just do my best to capture and pay tribute to what I see and feel. My “style”, as best as I can describe it, is realistic. While it's not my goal to create photographic quality art, it is always very clear what the subject of the art is to the viewer, and it's represented in more detail than it likely needs to be. I'm a recovering perfectionist after all, and watercolor is my chosen therapy! |
