I transplanted to California from Philadelphia, PA seven years ago to be closer to family and friends and to try my hand in Styling. I found my niche in Theatrical Wardrobe as a Dresser and Costumer.
Six months ago, while working on a show, I literally fell into crocheting and beading wire after admiring an orange, jade, pendant worn by the Assistant Wardrobe Designer. I'm such an earring lover; I was immediately Wowed, thinking "This piece would be great as earrings!" I asked her how it was made and she told me that it was crocheted beading wire. It was honestly one of the most beautiful pieces I had ever seen.
A few days later I came across a beading store; and, overwhelmed with a desire to make that pair of earrings, I asked about beading wire. Still, I had no clue how to "crochet", or knowledge about the different gauges of wire; but I thought, "Why not give it a try". I left the store with silver plated beading wire, and a pair of beautifully matched turquoise stones for earrings.
Later that day, after what I refer to now as "zen-crocheting", I made my first pair of earrings.
When my husband came home I eagerly showed him the earrings. He found them beautiful and was surprised I'd made them. Of course I thought they were beautiful; but I was dying to know whether or not others would agree. I was floored by everyone's positive reactions.
Since then I've designed a line of 15 earrings and am currently working on necklaces and bracelets. The demand for my earrings has been so great that I created a website to expedite orders.
I absolutely love crocheting and designing. I can sit and "zen-crochet" for hours; I pour love and detailed attention into every creation produced. More than anything, the biggest reward for me is to see people wearing Misty Jane.
