Sunset Circus, Fleming Island, FL
With a sound that is refreshingly unique and yet instantly comfortable and familiar, Sunset Circus exploded upon the modern country music scene in 2010, in Jacksonville Florida, and have never looked back. Despite the trials and tribulations, not to mention tragedy that would have finished lesser men, brothers Scott and Darren Johns have proven that not only is the Circus in town, but it is here to stay.
Ironically it wasn't always the case. Although both Scott and Darren had both been in numerous bands, they had never been in one together, until one fateful moment changed everything. While listening to the radio, with the volume cranked to eleven, they were taken by a sound that was at first so different and yet still a driving classic rock n' roll AC/DC rhythm section thundering right through the middle, all topped off with a smooth southern country vocal proclaiming “She's Country!” Well the proverbial gauntlet was thrown down, and Sunset Circus was born.
Their goal was simply to play good, strong, modern country music and have a good time doing so. With a solid line-up spanning 3 decades in the industry they were bound for success. From Dustin's youth and exuberance to Scott's veteran experience, not only can they relate to fans of all ages, but it will always keep their sound fresh and relevant. When the time was right, Scott unveiled “Wild Angel,” the band's first original song, and from that moment forward they knew that covers road was going to be short and it was time to make an honest effort to write a full-length album.
Having spent some time playing clubs to grow tighter as a unit and get their name in front of as many people as they could, they forged an unbreakable bond with their audience with their expertly crafted songs. These self-penned classics have that personal touch that has the crowd worked into a frenzy and up on their feet singing along in any live show. Opening for the likes of Frankie Ballard, Lee Brice, Thompson Square, Crossin' Dixon, Joe Diffie and more, they have converted many of those concert attendees into fully-fledged Sunset Circus fans! In a short time they have managed both national and international airplay for four tracks, which is no small feat for an unsigned band.
