Starting to teach himself at the age of 9, David soon found his love and passion for the guitar, then playing shows and Honky Tonks at 15 years of age, he fell in love with performing. With the passing of his Mother at 17 years old (something he could never let go of), took David off in a difficult direction, withdrawn and confused, turning more and more to his guitar and music. Eventually, he discovered his passion for singing, as well as entertaining and being the front man of his own shows.
As time went by he was opening shows for John Anderson, Mickey Gilley, Ricky Skaggs Mel McDaniel, and so many more, as well as one of his heroes whom he opened many shows for, Merle Haggard. And proudly wears the two handmade leather guitar straps at every performance made for David by his dear and late friend, Jerry Ward, who played bass guitar and sang harmony with Merle for 17 of Haggard's early incredibly successful years. Even opened a show for George Strait, out on the West Coast at a beautiful venue ( no longer there ) called The Las Vegas Room.
In 1998, he met, and performed on stage with Buck Owens, which quickly turned into a close friendship between the two. David was now a regular performer at The Buck Owens Crystal Palace in Bakersfield CA., and even eventually became a part time Buckaroo, filling in and featured from time to time with Buck and The Buckaroos! But Buck didn't stop there! Buck came to David after a rehearsal one warm Central Valley day and said 'let's record a duet' , and once David started to breathe again, he accepted Bucks offer with great honor and pride. There is just a handful of artists that have had that opportunity with Buck. And even more rare, was for Buck to make such an offer.
David continued his career there for a time, then after Buck's passing, he eventually moved back to Nashville in 2008, where he continues to live and perform to date. Just a short time after moving back to Nashville, he was offered an acoustic position with yet another of his heroes, Mr. Ray Price. And then it was off on an East Coast tour with Ray and Willie Nelson!
Still performing both on the road and in Nashville with his own shows plus backing up his dear friend Miss Irlene Mandrell, and many others, David has 4 albums to his credit, endorsements with 3 guitar companies, and is currently working on a new album on his own label 'CODY RECORDS', plus an instrumental CD.
