In 1979 a few like minded people got together around a piano and decided that Parry Sound, on the shores of Georgian Bay, was the perfect place to hold a classical music festival. Since then the Festival of the Sound has shaped the artistic landscape of Northern Ontario. From our humble roots in the high school gym, to the glittering performances now being presented at the Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts, the festival has always stood for one thing: excellence in music. For 35 years we've been widely respected as one of the finest chamber music festivals in the country. From our roots as a volunteer run festival we have grown into a strong festival with a full time-professional staff, and a large working board. Guided by the vision of our Artistic Director James Campbell the Festival of the Sound continues to grow and strengthen as the seasons pass.
