Karen Correll was born and raised in Vermont and now lives with her husband, David, of 33 years in the small city of Rutland. Due to the rise of childhood anxiety during the coronavirus pandemic, she began her journey writing while researching the topic for a wellness class. The data from several studies pointed to the long-term impact children may experience and Correll felt compelled to help in some small way. She began to create Niko Discovers the 5 Senses Game, a book to help children ages 5-8, recognize worry and anxiety and learn to calm and redirect their mindset using the 5 Senses Game. This practice helps children to gain valuable mindfulness skills that are essential for well-being and development. Parents have found stress relief by reading the story and practicing the game as well. Creating a perfect tool for the whole family to manage stress and anxiety.
Correll has enjoyed a career in business for over 30 years. She opted to return to school to complete her undergrad degree in Communications at 53 and recently graduated in May of 2021. Hobbies include writing, watercolors, acrylics, and other forms of art where she can let her creativity flow freely.
