Florida Fish Painting
Gyotaku translates to Fish Painting or Fish Rubbing from Japanese, it starting around the 1850’s, as anglers needed a way to document there catches, there were no cameras, and from that point an art form was born.
The Florida Fish Painting booth contains fish prints for sale, but gives festival patrons a chance to Experience the Ancient Art of Gyotaku.
They create a foolproof, One-Of-A-Kind artwork. Legend has it a GOOD LUCK print for Angler’s!
Everyone makes a wall hanging! Off white fabric 11x17 attached to wood dowel creates it. T-shirts, pillowcases, tote bags and aprons are offered as an upgrade.
At the top it will be stamped the event name, bottom right corner stamped Florida Fish Printing.
There are several different types of fish to paint, Large Mouth Bass, Bluegill, Piranha, as well as Starfish and Shells, made from real fish they make an incredible life like print, using rubber molds helps us protect the species and environment.
Booth is set up in stations, fish is painted and print is made, then sponging and additional paint work is done, last stage markers are use to add ones name or maybe draw a fish hook to their catch~
Photos and step-by-step instructions are posted so they can see how to make their One-Of-A-Kind artwork.
For decoration we have cards with funny fish sayings in our nets along with crab trap floats and fish decor to round out our display.
We now offer a nice selection of leaf molds for Nature Printing. Fern, Oak, Grape are just a few to choose from.
