ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Gail Wilson aka G. Liz

My love for all genre of art has been a part of me since elementary school. I've performed in local theaters, sang in local bands and choirs. I also am a jewelry artist specializing in leather and silver materials. I am a self-taught Artist that believes nothing beats a miss but a try!

My greatest love and obsession is Abstract Art! I create abstract art with acrylic paint, on repurposed, picture framed or unframed glass surfaces. I obtain picture frames from thrift stores and yard sales, or I pick up throw a ways and donations. I am thrilled when I turn an old, discarded picture frame into another work of art to be enjoyed. I like to pour paint on the frame and make it a part of the painting. I've also used discarded or donated mirrors!

My journey in creating Acrylic Abstract Paintings started while researching how to paint over another framed abstract painting on glass. I loved the shape and size and did not want to discard it. As I experimented with the various techniques and recipes, I became more and more engrossed and enthralled!

I feel liberated and excited whenever I start a new painting! The randomness of my Abstract Art is an addictive, therapeutic, messy, and most of all fun, way of creating my paintings. Every piece is unique! I may add heat to the painting to cause a textured effect. I may add an oil based product to further enhance or change the consistency of the paint. I never know how it will turn out!

Photos are taken at different stages to capture interesting shapes and patterns that naturally occur while the paint spreads across the glass. I also use household items such as bamboo skewers or straws to manipulate the paint for a desired effect.  Depending on the size of the original, 20 or more photos may be taken. The photos are saved for creating designs.

The photos are used for printing on a variety of materials and textile surfaces, such as fabric, artist canvas for framing, posters, paper products, bedding, pillows, variety of clothing styles for all ages and genders, footwear, accessories, wall paper, gift wrapping paper, promotional products, just to name a few!
