Café Campo Rey is 100% Arabica bean and 100% artisan Puerto Rican Coffee harvested at an elevation of 1,200 m in the central mountainous region of Puerto Rico called La Cordillera Central. Our family coffee plantation (Hacienda el Ruiseñor) where we cultivate harvest, process, roast and pack our coffee is located in Lares, Puerto Rico.
Because of the costs of certification not all sustainable coffees necessarily carry a seal or a certification, Cafe Campo Rey is not "organic" certified. Nonetheless, we use ecological and sustainable practices to cultivate, harvest, process and roast our Cafe Campo Rey coffee. Such practices include but are not limited to the following:
1) The use of natural fertilizer such as recycling and utilizing the fruit pulp.
2) Water conservation by recycling the water from our own natural springs and returned to the ground.
3) The use of renewable energy equipment that uses coffee parchment and fallen branches as fuel.
4) The use of energy efficient equipment and machinery.
5) Applying soil erosion control and management methods and techniques.
6) Conserving and protecting natural habitats, native’s trees, plants, fruits and vegetables at the same time providing shade and oxygen to the coffee plantation for the optimal quality coffee harvest.
