Emerald Bay Gems
Born in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada in 1953. Attended high school in Port Elgin, New Brunswick. Post secondary education qualified her as a legal administrative assistant, accountant/bookkeeper, certified graphoanalyst (handwriting analyst), education assistant (teacher aide), artist educator, and certification in crystal therapy.
Has always been interested in drawing and painting, but didn’t pursue this interest until 1998. She is mostly self taught, but attends painting workshops whenever available, reads art oriented materials extensively, and spends most of her “free” time drawing, painting, hand-colouring her own black & white photographs and preparing for upcoming exhibitions.
Most recently, is also experimenting with designing and creating gemstone jewellery, that is not only art in itself, but has energy that can lift, energize and assist in healing body, mind and spirit. She has launched a business called "Emerald Bay Gems" which offers therapeutic healing gemstone jewelry. The jewelry is made from gemstones that have not been dyed, heated, or irradiated.
Gabrielle paints with watercolours, acrylics and other mediums in a style all her own. International artist, Jennifer Garrett, describes her style this way: “it’s like she sees through a lens that’s just a little bit turned or slanted, kind of like looking through a thick piece of old window pane or something, and she’s true to it, so the result is very interesting”. Her painting is also described as raw distorted realism, impressionistic, colourful, humorous, and “delightful”. She gains much inspiration from the peoples and situations she encounters while travelling.
Favourite places to visit and to paint include Newfoundland, Croatia, the American Southwest and Mexico. On the agenda is Russia with its Orthodox Churches, vast landscapes, long history, and resilient peoples.
