Creative Process Every hair accessory I make uses unique recycled materials so each one is its own piece of art. Most of the components are antique, vintage or second hand. I love finding great pieces of vintage and costume jewelry and combining them with lace, ribbon and feathers to make stunning hair accessories. Everything I sell is hand crafted by me as well as most of my displays. I spend a lot of time with the details and composition to make sure my items are wearable and beautiful besides being eco-friendly.
Artist Bio I started Headstrong Headwear in November of 2010. I love that my items are beautiful and make use of materials that have been overlooked or discarded. Much of the vintage jewelry I use is broken and I bring it back to life. I believe in sustainability and buying local. I keep bees and grow my own fruits and vegetables. I love art history and have traveled to Italy and to England to study it. I have done work in ceramics, printmaking, mosaic, batik, drawing and painting, and won several awards in my youth. I also assist my mother in sewing quilts from donated materials to give to disaster victims. I have studied interior design and worked as an interior decorator and consultant for several years. I have a BS in Marketing from UNCA with a minor in Renaissance and Post-Renaissance Arts.
