Jewlu was created by Denise A. Mitchell in 2008 as a hobby to keep boredom at bay as she cared for her elderly mother, who required around the clock care. Initially she began making soap from scratch in her kitchen but quickly realized this practice would not be safe for her ever curious mother at home. She soon stopped making soap all together and focused solely on being a “stay at home daughter.”
After two years curiosity regarding soap making emerged again. This time her focus was to find all natural soap and after continuous research she stumbled upon the product base she desired. Next to be purchased were interesting molds to place the soap in and when she was pleased with what she found, she resumed her hobby. For nearly a year bar soap was her main focus and she spent her time purchasing unique molds of animals, Asian characters, elegant shapes and more. Exotic scents were soon purchased and she began giving the soap to her friends and family, quickly receiving good reviews on the products. Further expansion occurred with her solidifying her soap bases in natural Aloe Vera, Olive Oil, Castile and Goat’s Milk soap. The majority of the feedback she received was that the soaps “lathered nicely” or that customers “loved the smell of it.” These positive results sparked a new interest in Mitchell to try to make shower gels. After another session of rigorous research she found the bases (from an organic/naturally derived source), created the gels and gave them out to her friends and family with success again following.
By 2012 Jewlu had grown to a full bath and body line. It now included bar soaps, shower gels, hand sanitizers, bath bombs, body soufflés, lotions, foot fizzies/balms, lip balms and more. In January 2013 Mitchell’s son, Keva Wegman, joined her journey and took control of her website, social media accounts, promotion and revamped the look of bar soaps. Today, Jewlu is rapidly growing as well as continues to be lauded by all who purchase it.
