Jim Hoover Photo, Osprey, FL
I started doing photography right out of high school, paying a Downtown Detroit commercial photographer a fee so I could work for him. I went from there to the sports Department of the Detroit Free Press and, eventually, worked as team photographer for the Detroit Pistons, doing additional work for the Tigers and Red Wings. I also provided all the publicity and public relations photography for Detroit Race Course (thoroughbred horses) and photographers the Indy 500 for Ford. Along the way I did about 3 1/2 million weddings (seemed like it anyway) and miscellaneous photography work.
I took a hiatus from photography to go back to school, get a degree in accounting and finance, become a CPA and crunch numbers for a number of years. Now I've retired from that and I'm backing doing what I love. This time no weddings and (so far) no professional sports. My work consists of doing landscape and wildlife photography in the southwest Florida area.
My work has been exhibited at Save Our Seabirds in Sarasota, will be featured at the Lemon Bay Playhouse in Englewood, and I was featured artist at "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refusge on Sanibel Island for a two month period in 2015 and scheduled for another two months in 2017.
