I studied art throughout my academic years including a BA in Art Education from The University of Northern Iowa, additional course work through UW Stevens Point, Viterbo University, Chapman University, Lawrence, MATC & HTC. Professionally employed in advertising agencies, an art studio & publishing. Taught k-12 art for the past 11 years within the Wisconsin Educational System.
Since my youth, I produce original 3-d, relief, realistic & whimsical pecies. Over the past 15 years, I have spent numerous hours per week designing & carving art in a variety of wood species. Each piece requires a few hours to a couple hundred hours. A couple of larger commissioned projects, that didn't allow me to display my work at art festivals & shows, required more then two years to complete.
Hand tools, gouges, parting tools, chisels & knives, are my primary resources for producing my work. Occasionally I will use hand-held power tools. Some pieces require sanding and others the patterns created by razor shape tools. My work is generally finished in oils, stains, lacquers, varnishes, shellac, polyurethane and more. Exposing the wood grain is a primary concern as I complete the piece.
My work has received numerous awards at art shows as well as carving shows including a "best of Show" at the first where my work was displayed.
