This year, our little country church out in the woods, is putting together shoebox gifts for the residents of a local nursing home. We are very excited and having a wonderful time wrapping and stuffing each box with little things we hope each resident will enjoy. Socks, large print puzzle books, magnifiers, stationery, lotions, nail polish, etc. We will pray over the boxes before we deliver them, so that each person gets what they want or need. Each also has a Bible verse inside that we hope says exactly what that recipient needs for some comfort. This event will be the highlight of my Christmas this year. It will likely be remembered more than any other "gift" I might receive. I can't imagine what it must be like to live in a nursing home, and hope I never have to know. I am sure there are a few folks who don't mind, but the majority, I am sure would rather be in their own homes. I lost my Dad to cancer in October this year. He was 81, I was blessed to be able to spend time with him at his home before he passed. Right now, my 77 year old mom stays with us during the winter months, and our 75 year old cousin is here with us now too. It's not always "cheerful" but we feel for us, it's the right thing to do, for as long as we are able. We feel blessed that we are able to do this for them. Not everyone can. It is a gift to us to spend these years with them. And again, will be remembered dearly, far above and beyond any gift picked up at a Christmas sale. Our best wishes to everyone for a blessed and safe holiday season and a Christmas that you will remember because of those who shared it with you!! Robin of "Proud Murray" |
I was thinking today about how when we perform, it is often called "playing" music, not "working". Yet it is work, hard work. And although we are blessed to enjoy performing, it comes with it's challenges just like any other job. But it is also more than just a job for most musicians, it is an actual part of who they are. I know that is the case for me. I don't ever remember saying "I want to be a performing musician when I grow up", it just happened organically somehow. And I don't think I could ever completely put it aside without actually losing a part of myself. |
Well, this is my first blog entry. I wanted to give folks a heads up about a change in the works. Now that we have added the talented bass player and vocalist, Michael Dean, to the McHugh Jones Group, we have been tossing around a new band name. I think we came up with 25 names or more, everything from the simple to the absurd. We had to check to see if anyone else was using the name, if it fit our group and our personalities, and we had to like it. After much consideration, there was one name that kept making Jeff and I smile when we thought about it. We hope it does the same for our fans. It was Patty's suggestion and we are glad she came up with it. The McHugh Jones Group will soon be known as "Proud Murray"! Yup. A little play on words there from the classic Tina Turner hit Proud Mary with a twist. Just a little bit on the quirky fun side (like us) and also hopefully memorable (also like us). So, we'll be "Proud Murray", and of course, we'll "keep on burnin' " up those songs you love. Hope you like it as much as we do! |
