Kelly Schneider
Artist Bio:
Originally from Cleveland Ohio, artist Kelly Schneider has always had a passion for art. She attended the Cleveland Institute of Art majoring in glass and received a bachelors of fine art degree in 2006. Shortly after graduation she moved to Silver City New Mexico in 2007 to teach art at the local public schools. It was there where she fell in love with the southwest. Her art has always been inspired by nature. The beauty of New Mexican mountains, sunsets and landscapes has kept her a permanent resident for many years. Although glass is her favorite, she uses a variety of different mediums including acrylic, wood, metal, and resin.
Artist Statement:
In the past my painting style has been primarily realistic. My current body of work is stepping away from realism and embracing abstract surrealism. My pieces are very much process oriented. The process I use is extremely therapeutic and meditative yet contemplative. Certain aspects of this process remind me of working with glass. Layering the paint, the fluidity of the pour, torching the air bubbles and using gravity to manipulate your composition all are reminiscent of glass blowing.
Each of my pieces are one of a kind and cannot be exactly replicated. Each piece tells a different story depending on the viewers imagination. My work tends to evoke a sense of discovery and nostalgia
that brings beauty to those who see and feel it.
I like to find unique antique trays and dishes made out of either metal, wood or glass and use them as my canvas or vehicle for my creations. While doing so I give the old discarded piece a new life as an attractive one of a kind artwork.
