LITTLE MOSES JONES – “THE RAIN CAME FALLING DOWN” – THE BRILLIANCE IS IN THE GROOVE!

posted December 15, 2021   category » Music
LITTLE MOSES JONES – “THE RAIN CAME FALLING DOWN” – THE BRILLIANCE IS IN THE GROOVE!

A multi-instrumentalist who has built and directed dozens of highly successful dance and party bands, performed in more than 1500 live concerts, as well as produced and released an award-nominated CD (“LEGENDARY”) that hit #1 on Latin Jazz, R&B, Funk & Blues charts, Little Moses Jones is not resting on his past achievements. The artist, who was already igniting his future passion at the age of 5, before his feet could even touch the floor beneath the piano bench, is currently working his upcoming self-titled CD, which features award-winning musicians from Gladys Knight, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Dotsero. In the meantime, he has dropped the single, “The Rain Came Falling Down” ft. Tim Huston, Jazzie & Tony Exum Jr.

The new single is nothing short of brilliant. The record draws various influences from the band’s musical journey, translating their experiences into a tune worth remembering. The distinct sound of R&B and Soul elements interlace perfectly with funk and jazz progressions. Alongside the soaring soulful lead vocals, the project also allocates space for a rapped verse, showing that Little Moses Jones is in the game with 360° vision.

Despite the big band sound and array of organic instrumentation, all the elements fit together neatly on “The Rain Came Falling Down”, for an easy listen, including the substantial saxophone solo.

The medium paced arrangement, warms up the senses, allowing listeners to take in the musicality of the entire band. The design of this track is such that the listener is able to visualize the band’s instrumentation very clearly and soak in the experience completely.

Few of today’s bands possess the dexterity to compose a song of this caliber and make it sound effortless. At the end of “The Rain Came Falling Down”, one cannot help but admire the drum and bass jam, as well as the horns, along with the guitar and keys that build along with the climactic vocal sections. The brilliance of this track is in the groove – the rhythm section forcing the listener to pay attention to track’s musicality.

The word “groove” cannot be used enough to describe this track. It is an element that has been partly lost in our electronic era of pristine productions where nothing really sits in the pocket naturally. That’s not the case with what Little Moses Jones and crew accomplish here.

Everything is extremely tight, but loose enough to neatly encapsulate the energy and excitement of a live show. It’s the same magical formula that made Earth, Wind & Fire such a captivating force.

The idea here, is that the rhythm is fluid, that the instrumentation is always on the move, and that the song is in a constant state of evolution. “The Rain Came Falling Down” is a colorful, richly textured arrangement that makes effective use of the project’s arsenal of keyboards, horns and rhythm section.

I’m still fairly new to Little Moses Jones’ music, but to these ears “The Rain Came Falling Down” is an overt and profound statement of his evocative playing and level of musical intelligence.

{Behind The Music} Moses Jones Life Changing Memories

GETTING TO KNOW LITTLE MOSES JONES…
Interview by Jacqueline Jax / Radio host & music journalist

I knew I wanted to be in music when……
I was 3 years old. I remember being on stage dancing with my hands in the air, while my dad performed his 1 man blues show in front of a few 1000 people. My dads Stage name was: “The King Black Joker” He used to wear a joker outfit with all of the face paint & the pointy shoes. lol . Experiencing being in front of a crowd that big, it was life changing.

Walk This Road Alone was ….
nominated for a Hollywood Music Award. The song was written by my father before he passed. The crazy part about him writing this song is that when he had finished it, he died. The song was laying right next to his leg when we found him. When I started producing it and reworking the song a little, I found a style that was not only my dads style but mine as well. I really think that he would be happy with the way “Walk This Road Alone” came out. I had National Recording Artist “Lionel Young” sing and play violin and guitar for the track to give it that nice old-school delta blues as well as a touch of jazz. We also had the following musicians on this track. Tony Black “drums, Larry Henley “bass”, James Torres “piano”. All of these artist have long list of accomplishments in the music business.

moses jones music artist indieWhen I’m in the mood for live music I head to…..
I usually try to pop in to festivals, clubs or anything else I can find with live music but if I don’t find what I’m looking for there’s always great live shows on YouTube!

Social Media…
I like social media, being a web designer and musician, Social media can reach to the masses with out leaving home. When doing this for marketing its great as well as keeping in touch with long lost family and friends There are also the negatives about it, but I feel you couldn’t reach the number of people as fast as you can with social media.

My first concert was…
Earth Wind & Fire Live with The Denver Philharmonic at Red Rocks in 2011. I have always been in to music but I started going to concerts late. I’m such a late bloomer lol!!

My favorite artist is…
I feel that I have really had a connection to the following people in my music: Stevie Wonder, Kool & the Gang, Earth Wind & Fire, Tyrone Davis, Bobby Blue Bland, The Temptations, Boyz ll Men. I have met a few of the members from Earth Wind & Fire and been to 1 of there concerts. I love that all of these artist made everybody happy when they sang or played. The lyrics were meaningful and talked about life experiences. I also love the musician qualities from the artist I have list above.

My rock and roll style icons are…..
Kool & The Gang, Betty Wright, Mariah Carey, Tyrone Davis, Stevie Wonder, B.B King, Lakeside, R-Kelly, Bone Thugs & Harmony,
The Temptations, Bruno Mars,Whitney Houston, The Supremes.
The list can go on for ever!!

BIO:
Little Moses Jones – Band Leader, Saxophone, Keys, Drums
Moses eats, sleeps and breathes music. Yeah, we can’t get him to sleep most nights, because he’d rather stay up and write music or work out that new arrangement or practice or do social media or close a deal on a venue or any number of music related projects. Does he work too much? Hell yes. But we can definitely argue that he is also having way too much fun. Born and raised in Defiance, OH, Moses started his music career as soon as he could ride a bike. It was natural progression as his father was a musician. Moses went on to play Baritone Sax for the Fabulous Jades in California and the High Country Brass Senior Drum Corps in Denver. New to Colorado, Moses quickly climbed the local music scene ladder and built one of the strongest drawing and regionally recognized dance bands, The Moses Jones Band. He’s back at it again. Denver Wedding Band Mr. J and the Smooth Expressions is an 12-piece variety dance/party band that will make your feet beg you to get out on the dance floor. If you’re looking for something different, look no further than The Mash Masters. Mashups are created by taking contemporary and vintage songs from all genres and combining them to produce a unique and most definitely, danceable sound. Moses released his original work this year on a CD fittingly titled “Legendary”. Moses subscribes to the belief that bigger is better. His cover bands may be 12-piece, complete with a horn section, but his original band, Moses Jones Rock Funk Orchestra, is an 18-piece band. Ya, we thought you’d have to read that again. Be on the lookout for the Orchestra tour dates in 2015. If that isn’t enough to keep this all around, fun-loving guy busy, Moses works as an agent for Alpine Music Connection and Road Dawg Touring and runs his own promotions and publicity company, MJ Entertainment.

Jazz, Funk and Blues Adopt Modern-Day Twist on Sophomore Album from Hit-Maker Little Moses Jones

Jazz, Funk and Blues Adopt Modern-Day Twist on Sophomore Album from Hit-Maker Little Moses Jones

DENVER, CO – Little Moses Jones has always been an overachiever when it comes to music. At 5 years old he answered music’s calling before his feet could even touch the floor when sitting at a piano bench, and for the next 30 years he continued his devotion to learning and perfecting as many facets of the art and industry as possible. Today he’s become known as one of the most expressive musicians in the Jazz, R&B, Funk and Blues genres, and his latest album “The Rain Came Falling Down” is a blast of amazing sounds and vibes that feature award-winning artists from Gladys Knight, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Dotsero.

Overachiever? Indeed. But if this new project shows anything it’s that Little Moses isn’t resting on his laurels. This second funk and blues-oriented project is a powerful expression of big band music perfect for the atmosphere and environment of today’s music industry. Not only does it indicate that there are many more good things to come from Little Moses over the next decades, but it also shows the world an artist at the top of his game presenting a mastery of his art.

The debut single from the project is the perfect example of how Little Moses is tapped in at the height of his game. Taking its name from the project, the single “The Rain Came Falling Down” features artists Tim Huston, Jazzie J, and Tony Exum Jr. The song originated with Huston, who at the time had been writing a song for the legendary Anita Baker. He’d been wanting to work with Little Moses for a while, and when the latter provided some music for Huston to listen to, things just clicked.

“He put his lyrics with my music and when they came together it just turned out nice,” Little Moses said. “It has a nice soul, funk, contemporary sound, with lyrics that talk about relationships and splitting ways and moving on. I’ve always been a big band guy with that old-school, big type of sound. I like to play with the funk and old-school sounds, but then add in new elements to create a fresh vibe. You can hear a lot of influences, like Earth Wind & Fire, Kool and the Gang, and Bruno Mars. I just like good old music – the kind of music that used to mean something. Nowadays I feel like a lot of music doesn’t have a lot of meaning, and I want to get back to that true essence. I’m providing great music for people to listen to and enjoy.”

If his accolades are any indication, fans all over the world are loving the music that he’s bringing. Through his career he’s mastered multiple instruments – all of the various saxophones, piano, tuba, drums and other percussion instruments, and more – and he’s built and directed dozens of highly successful dance and party bands. He’s performed more than 1,500 live concerts, and managed and assisted many other artists toward successful careers. His previous album “Legendary” hit No. 1 on the Latin Jazz R&B Funk & Blues charts, and his radio show LMSS Radio has thousands of regular listeners from all over the world.

Following the release of “The Rain Came Falling Down,” Little Moses said he plans on releasing a couple more singles later this year – “Making Crazy” and “Perfect For Me.” To listen to his music, or to follow him on social media, please visit the following links:
