The Live Oak Art Center has 55 years of a strong mission to support the arts. Originally the Live Oak was founded by a group of women who met in Betty Lee Walker’s living room. In the eighties it took Emma Hays’ years in Mexico and travel abroad to bring back the idea of owning a building and having a non-profit art center.
Our membership is made up of 50% working artists. Over the years these artist have come to the art center, served on boards and added their leadership to your mission.
Artist Pat Johnson recently retired to pursue her own career after 10 years as Exhibit Director. The Center made a major commitment by hiring Thomas Truchard two years ago as a part time employee to maintain the office, programs, workshops and grants associated with them. Thomas holds a BFA in Photography from Sam Houston State. This year Thomas was hired as the first full time employee of the Live Oak Art Center. This is all due to our support from the TCA and growth in our community support.
