Marie Louise 505 is a local clothing company based out of Santa Fe, New Mexico started by Marie Gurule, a clothing designer and screen-printer. She devotes herself to creating quality stylish attire through hand-drawing each design and printing it on the garment while varying the placement to achieve a more individual look for each piece.
Her tattoo-flash style drawing is influenced by her late Uncle Bill Wissman, Santa Fe’s famous tattoo artist. She recently coined the name Marie Louise for her company in memory of what her late Mother called her growing up. Magpie, previous name of her children’s line, depicting the nature of the southwest, is printed on second-hand clothing primarily supporting non-profit organizations. One of her more recent adult lines, previously called La Onda, represents New Mexico pride in the most fashionable way.
She started out by drawing on used clothing, which later developed into screen-printing the designs. Marie has spent most of her life in Santa Fe and has helped out since she was a young girl at her Aunt’s consignment store, Double Take, surrounded by creativity and inspiration to find new ways to reuse items. She has traveled and studied all over Latin America, which further broadened her artistic ideas and encouraged her to preserve the uniqueness of New Mexican culture. Her clothing is available at many stores in Santa Fe and in Albuquerque at Toad Road.
