Member Since: November 8, 2022
New York, New York

Michael Shvarzblat was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. As an undergraduate, he studied at Boston University, followed by a doctorate in experimental psychology at Harvard University. In 1982, Michael joined PACE University as a professor of psychology.  The evolution of human behavior is the focus of his study as an evolutionary psychologist. A strong interest of Dr. Shvarzblat's is the development of cognitive control processes over time and how atypical development sheds light on vulnerable cognitive aspects.

Shvarzblat's research focuses on memory and attention control processes involved in planning and coordinating future actions (i.e. prospective memory), maintaining goal-relevant information (i.e. working memory), encoding and retrieving information in long-term memory (i.e. episodic memory), and monitoring one's own cognition (i.e. metamemory). Each of these domains has a central question regarding age-related changes in these processes.
