Kimberly D. Gibson – Artist Biography/Statement My artwork takes a humorous view of social and cultural issues. I deconstruct American marketing icons that are part of our culture. Having engaged subjects as diverse as the No Smoking movement, the fairy tale of Santa Claus and aliens on earth, my work reproduces visual signs, arranging them into new conceptually layered pieces. Often times these themes are combined into art pieces that include painted backgrounds with whimsical, repurposed and my own knit objects. While I use a variety of materials and processes in each project, my methodology is consistent.
