Artful Otter, LLC, Nashville, TN
The Artful Otter studio in Tega Cay, SC, is owned and operated by Pamela Beauchamp Wilson and specializes in the creation of beautiful enamel jewelry incorporating various techniques such as basse-taille and cloisonné on copper and fine silver.
What started out as a “Wow, that class looks cool” moment quickly developed into a passion for color, movement and the love of bringing a twinkle to the eye.
Creating a fine enamel piece is a meticulous and time-consuming process as the enamel (ground glass) is applied in very thin layers then fired in a kiln at temperatures ranging from 1250-1500 degrees. A typical cloisonné piece can have anywhere from 5 to 10 firings, sometimes more depending on the complexity and color combinations used. Once the enamel layers are complete, the piece is polished to a high gloss.
Pam has studied with a number of nationally renowned enamellists at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC and Arrrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN. Metalsmithing work at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts and John C. Campbell Folk School has also been important in the development of the Artful Otter.
