PEWTER, TALAVERA AND MORE, prides itself by offering authentic hand made articles by the indigenous people of the small villages in the Southern Mexican States of Puebla, Morelos, Oaxaca, Michoacán, Zacatecas and Jalisco according to tradition learned from past generations.
The Talavera tradition derives itself from the traditional making and paintings learned since the 1700's from the Spaniards in the times of the Colony and passed along through generations of native artisans. The original Talavera is made only in Puebla, México, making sure we carry only authentic handcrafted pieces.
The Marble and Onyx pieces are made in Puebla and Morelos. They are cut from the rock slab, chiseled, and molded by hand. Then they are honed down and polished to produce a unique masterpiece, hard to reproduce, with the highest quality and workmanship. Their making may take several days of detailed and hard work to  produce the masterpiece that may be shown with pride and confidence.
The Copper pieces are made in Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacán. These pieces are molded, pounded and shaped by hand and hammer, work that may take from 4 to 10 days to complete in its outstanding beauty and uniqueness.
The Pewter pieces are hand made, forged, molded and polished by the hands of local indigenous artisans from the small villages of Zacatecas and Jalisco, with extreme dedication, perfection, and their love for art.
Our pieces are unique and are produced according to the personal inspiration of each artist, which is why they are hard to reproduce or to create copies of them.
The Barro Negro (Black Clay) pieces are only produced in the town of San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca. It is a long process that takes several days which requires firm hands and an enormous ability and craftmanship. From the preparation of the clay to the molding and cutting, to forming the piece, adding the desired features, from there the piece is placed in the sun and left to dry. After that, the piece is polished by hand using quartz crystals. Then it is placed in the oven where it will acquire its distinctive black color and luster so characteristic of barro negro.
It is our pleasure to help these communities to market their products to the world and bring much needed revenue to their local economies during the hard times they've endured during the recent earthquakes that have devastated their lives and some of their towns to help them in their recovery and prosperity.
