More than 70 nationally recognized fine artists and craftspeople will exhibit their artistry at the Annual Pigeon Key Art Festival, always the first weekend in February, at Marathon Community Park, mile marker 49 Oceanside in Marathon.
The critically acclaimed festival is named for Pigeon Key, a small island beneath the Old Seven Mile Bridge that housed workers constructing the Overseas Railway in the early 1900s. Proceeds of this show benefit the Pigeon Key Foundation whose mission focuses on history, education and research.
The festival's participating artists and artisans are selected by a five-member jury from a field of applicants representing a wide variety of disciplines from jewelry to pottery, water colors to wood turning. A portion of the work is required to fit a tropical theme, and a special effort is made to bring in artists who have never before shown their work at the festival.
Admission to the festival is $7 per person for adults and free for children under 12.
