Handcrafted Leather and Beeswaxed canvas bags and Pouches. My work currently consists almost entirely of bags and pouches. I have a small line of bags that are handstitched and have stone or handblown glass inlays, and the rest of my work is stitched on my 1940 Singer 66 machine. My bags are conceived with ideas of nature, functionality, and love of beautiful materials. The color palate I most enjoy using is borrowed from nature- wide ranges of brown, green, and deep red. I value strong materials that stand up to heavy use and also have aesthetic appeal. I use mainly leather and canvas for my bags. A majority of the canvas is waxed with beeswax, which smells beautiful and is non-toxic. For the hardware required, I use cast brass and heavy zippers. For the leather bags, finding raw edges and asymmetrical shapes for the flaps is a detail I love to use that makes each one more unique. On some of the canvas bags, I like to add leather closures that mimic shapes in nature, making the bags look less utilitarian and more thoughtful. As a final touch on some of the bags, I incorporate stone, bone, and metal bead details. When designing these bags and pouches, I like to focus on how it will function in everyday use, how it feels to open and close and put things into, so these are meant to be easy, natural-feeling, and beautiful.
