I wish you could feel texture through the computer!

posted June 30, 2010

I get up at 5 am every day and sit with my first cup of coffee and let my mind wander.  Today's wanderings led me to the title of this post.

I am a very tactile person which is why I love sewing so much.  Take the carousel horse quilt  for example.  Or for that matter any other item on my site.

In the photos you can't tell how much texture there is and the feel of the sashing material.  When I'm stitching out a design, I am constantly running my hands over the top and the bottom of the blanket to feel how the design is jumping up from the quilt.   The highs and lows of the design are what make them so rich.  The sashing material is also very textured in wonderful pastel designs.  Then I let my mind wander to the lucky baby who is going to receive this.  (Truth be told, I want to be that lucky baby!)  As you look at the quilt, try to see it from my perspective and not just the look on the flat monitor screen.  It's like those art pictures that if you stare long enough at it a picture will develop right before your eyes.

We'll see what 5 am brings me to tomorrow!  Have fun feeling the quilt below!

Baby Quilt

What a wonderful project this quilt was!  I sewed rolled hem seams in the blue fabric for texture and and made 1/2 square triangles alternating with the fish fabric and the yellow fabric.  Then quilted the entire blanket with bubbles!  Very fun to watch the bubbles stitch out!
