Richard France, Tucson, AZ
Richard's career as an artist started when he lived in New York. In between Broadway shows he started drawing, then picked up some paints and found he had a another great talent as an artist.
A dancer, singer, actor on Broadway for 20 years. Performing abroad in "Wish You Were Here" in London, he played the lead in "Pal Joey". He then danced at the White House, and back on Broadway in "What Makes Sammy Run". Then in the early 70's Richard opened the France Academy of Dance with his wife Karrie. Then on to Palm Springs California in 2001 where he performed in the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies for 13 seasons.
When he wasn't putting grease paint on his face, he was putting paint on a canvas. Richard's paintings are inspired by choreography. "When I start painting, I see placement and spacing. I see a stage with dancers, but instead of dancers, it's a bright sun or a tree or the ocean's movement. It is much like a dancer moving across the stage. I enjoy the challenge each time I pick up a brush and put the paint on he canvas. It' exciting to see what I can create".
After finishing his career in the theater in 2014 Richard now devotes all of his time in creating paintings from photographs taken from trips. Recently Richard has started adding his art work to chairs, tables and chests which includes his carpentry work.
