Artist Statement
My work is an exploration of color and the natural flow of water, creating unique, wearable pieces that are both functional and artistic. Using permanent dyes and the ice-dyeing technique, I hand-dye textiles, each piece one-of-a-kind and impossible to replicate. This process captures the randomness of melting ice and the organic way color spreads across fabric, resulting in vibrant, fluid designs. Additionally, I incorporate specialized tying techniques to craft geodesic patterns, adding texture and structure to each garment or textile. My goal is to communicate the intricate technical effort behind each piece, while highlighting the practicality of the items I create. Each work of art is as individual as its wearer, merging the creative process with daily life.
Artist Biography
I began my journey into the world of dyeing during the pandemic, driven by my background in Microbiology and Chemistry. My fascination with chromatography led me to explore how dyes behave, and I was captivated by the randomness of ice dyeing—a process I found both scientific and artistic. While I've only recently embraced this craft, my passion for making art has been with me since I was young. I am particularly drawn to fiber arts, not only for their tactile beauty but also for their historical connection to women artists and the status of fiber art as "folk art," a form that I see as quietly subversive. Over the years, I have sold my work at several small markets and music festivals, and I continue to find inspiration in the ever-changing beauty of nature, science, and traditional craft.
