The prism of vibrant colors we see in our surroundings represent seasons of life and transition. The process of change from the new, fresh chartreuse green shade of a tree as it matures into its fullness of deep rooted emerald tone allows us to witness the depth of texture as its characteristics take hold. Light interacts with the hues of color as it reflects its source. Shirley has always been attracted to the colorful life that allows artistic expression of one's season of life. She embraces the change needed to bring about the arranged order of chaos and celebrates the unique masterpiece that reflects her source of life. As you interact with her designs, allow yourself to be drawn to the character represented. Each piece is a one of a kind, mold-free creation, just like we each are.
My story begins with a box of crayons…
In the beginning everyone is given their own box of crayons to color, shade and highlight the seasons of their lives.
Mine began in Reno, Nevada where I was born and raised till the last month of my junior year of high school. After being told we were moving, due to my dad being transferred, to a very small town in eastern Nevada. This glorious location named Ely, Nevada I thought was the end of what I had known as life. It was the time when The Beatles was making their big splash and everyone was in such a buzz over their coming to America, so when I said I was moving to Ely of course the presumption was that I said England… I just let that crayon paint that picture.
Let me say after we moved and the dust settled and the tears dried it turned out to be the most fun and rewarding place any crayons could have colored.
Graduating High School and being told my aptitude testing left the school personnel in a quandary. Where others were being told to go into math, science or some other area, mine was off the chart. My mother was told I excelled in “Abstract Thinking” and they had no idea where to place me. So happens that there was a full scholarship not claimed and if I contacted the school counselor it would be mine. Hence my crayons took me through beauty school and onward
With nearly 50 years as a hairdresser it has been a great ride behind the chair and also working with various venues such as the Dallas Summer Musicals, Dallas Operas, Movies and the New York City Rockettes.
Being a mom to three strong and accomplished women who have children of their own all with their own crayons life gets a little messy sometimes but the pictures are great.
My greatest picture is the fabulous man I'm married to who lets me use my crayons however and whenever the time arises. Also not to forget Oneie and Twoie our kitties who sit for hours in my studio and patiently wait for a pat on the head or a scratch on the ears.
Venturing into a new season with the jewelry crayons has been amazing. The picture that is developing is glorious and exciting and I am looking forward to sharing my crayons with each of you.
