Always involved in the craft of art, Deb has been making hand-and-rod big mouth puppets for over twenty years. She exhibits throughout the northeast, but her original creations can be found across the country and on every continent except Antarctica. She is a member of Puppeteers of America and has taught puppet-making on the primary through college level. The puppets have won prizes at craft shows since she began selling them. They are favorites of children, teachers, and music therapists among others!
She has designed puppets for productions of Avenue Q, Fiddler on the Roof, Charlotte's Web, and a PBS pilot on science. Her puppets are favorites of professional puppeteers and student ventriloquists. But they are light and friendly enough for children.
Deb Poplasky has been actively involved in theater for many years, but usually behind the scenes writing, directing, and producing. Passionate about involving children, she founded Youtheatre in Canandaigua, where she lives with husband Tom. Deb (Mrs. Pop) currently runs the Middle School Drama department at Marcus Whitman Central School where she teaches 6-8 Art. She retires to full-time puppet designing in June 2015.
