I have been playing and building Djembe and Ashiko style African hand drums from U.S. grown hardwoods for myself for many years. The stave construction is lighter than those that are carved from a single tree log. I protect my drums with 4 coats of polycrylic and I hand pick the Calfskin and Goatskin heads to produce professional sound quality.
