About
Sutherland Chamber of Commerce, Sutherland, NE
The Sutherland Chamber of Commerce is a volunteer-driven organization serving the Village of Sutherland, Nebraska, a close-knit community of approximately 1,300 residents situated along the historic Union Pacific corridor in Lincoln County, thirteen miles west of North Platte. Founded on the belief that strong businesses make strong communities, the Chamber brings together local merchants, entrepreneurs, and neighbors to support economic growth, promote Sutherland as a destination, and invest directly in the quality of life that makes this small Nebraska village a remarkable place to call home.
Our signature event is the Sutherland Makers Market, now entering its sixth year as one of western Nebraska's most anticipated autumn marketplaces. Held each September in historic downtown Sutherland, the Makers Market brings together 30 or more vendors — including handmade craft artists, boutique retailers, home-based businesses, specialty food producers, artisans, and unique small business offerings — for a one-day celebration of local creativity and entrepreneurship. The event runs alongside the Sutherland Volleyball Invitational, which draws teams and spectators from across the region and keeps energy and foot traffic strong throughout the day. A KidZone, food court, vendor raffle, and welcoming small-town atmosphere round out an event that consistently earns high satisfaction ratings from both vendors and shoppers alike.
The Makers Market is actively promoted through regional print and broadcast media, statewide advertising, social media, and community outreach spanning a 150-mile radius. Vendor satisfaction with event communication, setup, and booth organization has consistently rated at 94–100% in post-event surveys, reflecting the Chamber's commitment to running a well-organized, vendor-friendly event year after year.
