I have been inspired by the gifted artisans and crafts people that I have met across this country and around the globe. The beautiful Native American silverwork from the Southwest set with traditional stones, particularly turquoise, was certainly an early and powerful influence. The timeless shapes, forms and colors of pueblo pottery spoke to me as I visited galleries in Arizona and New Mexico. Now, I am mesmerized by the beautiful stoneware dinnerware and serving ware produced in North Carolina. Finally, my sculptural ceramic pieces and totems are architectural and reminiscent of beautiful buildings, monuments and temples around the world.
When I create jewelry, I utilize sterling silver and fine silver that I hand forge and texture. Semiprecious stones are often incorporated singly or in complimentary patterns. Some pieces are embellished with 22 carat gold using the ancient technique, Keum-Boo. All earring posts and wires are hypoallergenic stainless steel.
In the pottery studio, I enjoy working on the wheel to produce functional dinnerware and serving ware. I utilize a light cone 6 clay body harvested in North Carolina. All functional pieces are fired in an electric kiln and are food safe and microwave and dishwasher compatible.
I also produce decorative ceramic pieces that are wheel thrown and modified. These pieces are either glaze fired in and electric kiln with my functional pottery or pit fired to produce rich earthtones, organic colors and patterns.
