Handcrafted in my New York City studio, my collections feature eclectic & unique jewelry and accessories. My photo line features exquisite images which have been manipulated and collaged, using my Photoshop expertise, some with hand set elements. Designs are traditional blended with the modern and contemporary flair. My line of jewelry, includes photo lockets as well as traditional embellished lockets, pendants, earrings, filigree & patina jewelry and photo accessories such as decorative flasks, business card cases, etc.
Founder and designer Rosemarie Ferrara’s love visual beauty is evident in each creation. Urbanrose began as a hobby, after 911 and too many years in the corporate world doing computer training. After opening my handmade Etsy shop in early 2005, I began receiving many customer requests for my photo lockets & cuffs for special imagery such as artists, Gustav Klimt, John Waterhouse, etc.
Eventually this blossomed into a full-fledged business which I now feature online as well as many local craft shows. Many of my photo cuffs have been featured in the JP Getty Museum and custom creations for Kiel’s Pharmacy featuring their flagship location on my popular NYC photo cuff to name a few.
I have been passionate about working with different mediums such as image transfers, patinas on brass, filigree jewelry, hand painted oven-cured techniques, etc. After years of research and trial and error, I perfected my photo transfer & patina technique for which Urbanrose is now known. Each piece is handmade by me in my NYC studio, some pieces taking up to five days to fabricate. The pieces are USA-made brass elements which are then formed and embellished and fabricated using photos, gold leaf, patinas or resin, or a combination of several of these mediums. The end look depends on the medium used.
Each piece is one-of-a-kind. Some have striking images depicting famous Artists, others are hand patinated using reactive paint & copper salts, and others are hand painted, using oven forged permanently bonded colorful paints. Most of the medium is USA-produced lead-free brass elements. All of the designs have a sophisticated and eclectic style, making it a unique one-of-a-kind work of art.
