Highlights of the exhibition are the custom designed rugs that will be offered for sale by special order. These are the results of a collaboration between H.O.L.A. (Heart of Los Angeles) and Decorative Carpets Inc.
Young artists, aged13-19 submitted original artwork, and then worked closely with the Decorative Design Team to transform their art into vibrantly colored wool rugs produced by the Decorative Carpets’ atelier. All proceeds from sales will go to H.O.L.A. a non-profit organization providing inner city youth with programs in arts, academics and athletics.
An installation with the theme “Backyards/Front Porches” is a collaboration between the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles Country, and the HeArt Project, whose mission is to creatively link overlooked teenagers in alternative high schools with professional artists, cultural centers and communities. These works explore the dichotomy between public/private space and urban/suburban transitions through the lens of storytelling, videography and urban planning.
LAartlab, an all volunteer collective helping teens engage in various facets of the L.A. art scene and creative economy, will show a variety of work by L.A. teen artists from The School for the Visual Arts and Humanities, a flagship of school reform in its second year with LAUSD. Students have created a variety of work which examines multiple intersections between internal and external living spaces.
The exhibit, in total featuring over 120 teen artists between the ages of 13-19, is hosted by WASHINGTON ADAMS exhibition space at the Pacific Design Center. (www.washingtonadams.com) (8687 Melrose Ave B231, M-F 10-2p.m.)
